IN THE BEGINNING, THE ONLY, THE NOW

Boston’s original Third Church of Christ, Scientist, was established more than a century ago in the city’s Hyde Park neighborhood. In 2011, a separate group formed the Christian Science Society of Jamaica Plain (known affectionately as “JP Church.”) Each was content with its own services, then began exploring the idea of opening a joint Christian Science Reading Room.

Working together on the Reading Room brought members together in what began to feel, in time, like one church family. In 2017, the two communities began developing a new structure and set of by-laws to start anew as Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, in Jamaica Plain.

In deference to our blended histories, we remain happily known near and far as “JP Church.”

Stronger together, we continue to develop… from JP living rooms to Centre Street (back to a JP living room) and in our newly renovated Washington Street location “…rising higher and higher from a boundless basis.”
